What Is Worship?

May 12

John 4:23-24 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

In worship, we realize our responsibility and God’s supremacy, but we also feel our inadequacy to express true worship through our words and actions. Our struggle with worship lies in trying to fulfill God’s purposes in our own flesh. He hasn’t intended for us to do this. He has provided the means- The Holy Ghost- whereby we can truly worship Him from our hearts.

Here is an acrostic for WORSHIP that I pray will help you to see it in a  new light.

W- Waiting

O- Obedience

R- Radical

S- Sacrifice; Submission

I- Inner- faith

P- Praise

First of all, Waiting in God’s presence: this is how we will be filled with the Spirit. God uses the time of waiting for the fullness of the Spirit to purify of all sin and separate us unto His highest purpose. By waiting in God’s presence, we will learn the valuable lessons of ultimate dependence upon God and absolute abandonment from anything that would displease Him.

Being obedient is of utmost necessity if you desire to worship God to the fullest. If you are truly living in God’s Spirit and He is dwelling in you, there will be times you will feel a nudge to do something that you wouldn’t naturally do. Make the move and you will be blessed abundantly, but refuse and you and others will suffer for it.

Be willing to be Radical if that is what God impresses on your heart.

Submission and Sacrifice go hand in hand. It takes submission (humility) of heart to be willing to lay down everything in Sacrifice to God.

The call to Holiness comes from God himself.

1 Peter 1:16 … Be ye holy; for I am holy. True holiness is when our whole heart longs to be and do whatever God desires for us and we are willing to fulfill whatever God shows us to be His will.

Inner- Faith is vital to our Spiritual life. Inner- faith comes into play when we believe God will perform what He has promised, and so we can give unending thanksgiving even when we don’t see how everything is going to work out

And now Praise can be lifted up to God from our whole heart.

Please feel free to share any thoughts that would enhance this topic of worship.
